TransLogic to distribute Matternet's M3 drones in 3,000 hospitals
A rooftop dock and a 16 km autonomous flight

The M3 carries a parcel of 5 kg maximum between two sites of the same hospital system, with no operator on board, and feeds it back into the internal transport circuit already installed. The two companies present the whole as a single network that starts at the pneumatic tube station located in the hospital and extends to the satellite buildings. Until now, internal transport and the link between sites have been handled by two separate organisations, the second often relying on road couriers.
Matternet has been operating drone deliveries for healthcare systems since 2017 in Europe and since 2019 in the United States. The payloads carried include laboratory samples, vaccines, pathology specimens and specialised medicines. The company began in 2014 with humanitarian missions and has been operating B2C deliveries in Silicon Valley since 2024.
Eleven pounds, ten miles: the announced figures and their blind spots

The M3 is rated for 11 pounds, around 5 kg, within a service radius of 10 miles, around 16 km, in fully autonomous flight. Between two missions, the aircraft is stored and recharged in a compact M3 Dock, which the two companies intend for hospital rooftops or other unused spaces. On paper, a dock installed on a main building is enough to serve the laboratories, pharmacies and clinics of a campus.
The specification stops there. No flight rate, no recharge time, no number of aircraft per dock, no weather limit or temperature range for the samples. Nor does the press release give the cargo hold capacity beyond the maximum mass, or the level of automation of handling at the arrival point. A specialist publication notes that these capabilities are those targeted by a next-generation platform, and not performance measured on an operational hospital network.
What the agreement changes for an existing transport fleet
TransLogic equips more than 2,300 hospitals in North America, including 18 of the 20 top-ranked US hospitals, and claims a global base of more than 3,000 facilities. TransLogic's sales team serves as a distribution channel for the M3 systems to this customer base. No modification to the pneumatic tube network is announced: the drone is added to the existing installation, which continues to manage internal flows.
The two companies are examining an extension of the agreement to installation, support and maintenance, with Swisslog Healthcare's field service carrying out the installation work for Matternet infrastructure at hospital sites. The press release does not describe the arbitration between a tube dispatch and a drone dispatch, nor the interface between Matternet's mission management software and hospital transport systems. A facility already equipped therefore does not know, from reading the announcement, what supervision it will have to add.
Price, authorisations and first sites: what remains to be established
The first year of the agreement targets hospital systems in California, Florida and Arizona. No hospital is named, no order is announced, and the customer figures describe TransLogic's existing commercial network, not confirmed M3 installations. Deployments remain subject to product development, site-specific constraints and regulatory authorisations, without the intended flight authorisation framework being specified, nor the use of beyond-visual-line-of-sight links.
Also missing are the system price, the availability date, the cost per flight hour and any quantified comparison with a fleet of road couriers. There is no feedback on the M3 in a hospital environment, since the platform is presented as the next generation of Matternet's offering. For a European buyer, the question of timing is compounded by that of scope: the agreement covers distribution in North America, and nothing indicates how Matternet's European installations, active since 2017, would fit with this arrangement.
